Drainage is the whole game

A patio sits right against the house, which is exactly where you don't want standing water. Slope has to be planned before forms are set — enough to shed water, gentle enough that furniture sits level and nobody notices.

We also look at where downspouts discharge and whether the new slab will change how the yard drains. Getting this wrong shows up the first serious summer storm.

Size it for how you'll use it

The most common regret is a patio that's too small. A table with chairs that pull out needs more room than people expect, and a grill area wants clearance behind it. We'll mark the footprint on the ground so you can walk it before we form anything.

Finishes for a backyard

Smooth troweled surfaces are comfortable underfoot but can be slick when wet. Light broom, textured and stamped finishes trade a little smoothness for traction. Lighter colors stay cooler in July.

Screen rooms and future additions

If a screen enclosure or covered structure might come later, tell us now. Footings, edge thickness and anchor locations are far cheaper to build into the original pour than to retrofit.
